Sleep

Then once I'd done that I'd actually do some art. I rarely get time for that. Occasionally get some pics done, but it's few and far between.

I retired quite a bit early. Holidays, golf, socialising and laughing at your mates who still have to get up for work in the morning after a night out were all on my list.

I did spend a lot of time wondering how I found time to go to work.

When you can do pretty much what you want, when you want, thereā€™s not too much of a rush.

Re: If you could retire tomorrow...
I have had to ā€˜retireā€™ unfortunately about 3 years ago. I absolutely loved my work, really got huge satisfaction from it.

I am somewhat content now, not unhappy, i do potter around the house like an auld lad, get the paper, do Yoga and other stuff like that. Also go to the gym.

Itā€™s a quite solitary thing though, if your of a younger age itā€™s tough. During the week all my mates are working so thereā€™s no one to go to meet up with, have a lunch with etc etc. Iā€™m the evening they are home, with their kids so meeting up can be tricky there also.

I have a routine, and I do enjoy it. But I do very much miss work. I just wish I could go back to having to go to bed early on Sunday nights cause Iā€™d a hard days work lined up for the next day. I miss chatting about the football with Co workers during the day.

I suppose itā€™s as I said, age relevant, your financial status, your circle of friends and family, and finally did you retire because you wanted to, or you had too. Having the actual choice taken away from you is a bit of a bitter pill to swallow. But we shall persevere. Iā€™m in a 15 month long rehabilitation program now to be able to go back to work, it wonā€™t be back to running my own companies anymore, it will be a very basic little job packing shelves, or working in a cafe somewhere. But Iā€™ve made peace with that.

I was want to contribute again, to do things that Iā€™m proud of. And to get there I have a lot of things I really need help with and really need to work on. But Iā€™ll get there. Someday. šŸ˜Š

Good like Irish, old boy. You've got a cracking attitude, so it'll work out.

Me, I'm actively finding ways to retire early. My life will consist of ground hopping, shark spotting, diving, travelling, reading and annoying my wife.

Once retired you will do those things you wished for with your newly acquired free time to the point that you are once again in the position of having little free time.

Re: If you could retire tomorrow...
Irish brings up a very good point about whether you want to retire or are forced into it through no fault of your own.

If itā€™s your choice you can plan things like your finances and what you plan to do with the extra time. I did a bit of part time volunteering for a couple of years for something to do. Itā€™s been a number of years now and I always seem to be busy with one thing or another.

If youā€™re forced into retirement suddenly, at best, it will be a bit of a shock to the system. And thatā€™s assuming youā€™re financially comfortable. You really donā€™t want to be retired and financially insecure. The worry alone would kill you.

Iā€™ve never been employed by anyone. Thatā€™s because Iā€™m a massive cunt. I recommend it. I do love working though. And playing.

Re: If you could retire tomorrow...
My dad retired early when he fell ill. He then started moaning that he had less time to do the things he wanted to do between learning Italian , discovering wine and taking holidays to France (cheese) and Italy (wine)

add in an expensive cruise to the South Pole and his last few Years was full to the brim.

Irish said he has a life changing amount of money - you canā€™t take it with you.

Walk, long walks, all the munros and maybe Santiago de Compostela, I'm not religious, just love going for a walk, especially with my dogs.
Fixing stuff, I'd start with my old car that has a fucked gearbox, GM400, I'd fix the gear box if it is fixable, none of that consumer buy a new one shit.
Go and see more football, would love to spend a year living in London and see all West Hams games, but probably cannot afford that.
Also golf, did enjoy it hen younger, but probably cannot afford that either.
Family and friends, would spend time just touring about seeing people I like. I can afford that. Maybe walk, but fancy just doing slow on a little scouter or similar?
